Iberia has commenced operations on its new Toronto–Madrid route as part of its long haul network expansion strategy. Five weekly services will connect the two cities using the Airbus A321XLR. The route forms part of Flight Plan 2030, which includes investments in fleet expansion, digitalisation, and the development of new international destinations. The new connection also supports Madrid’s role as a gateway between Europe and the Americas.
Madrid Hub Expands Access to Europe and Spain
Passengers travelling from Toronto will have access to Iberia Group’s network of more than 60 destinations across Europe. 46 of those within Spain via Madrid. The flight schedule has been designed to facilitate onward connections throughout the network. According to project estimates, the route is expected to generate an economic impact of approximately 31 million € during its first year of operation. The launch is supported by Madrid Turismo by IFEMA Madrid as part of a broader international promotion strategy led by the Madrid Regional Government and Madrid City Council. Toronto also becomes part of Iberia’s largest North American programme to date, with the airline offering more than 2.2 million seats and up to 170 weekly flights between Spain, Canada, the United States, and Puerto Rico in 2026.
