ICOM2026 is the first edition of the conference to take place in Australia and will focus on the role of mycorrhizal symbioses under environmental change. The programme comprises four main plenary themes and more than 230 scientific talks that cover topics including evolution, genomics, ecosystem resilience and climate adaptation. The event will also include multiple workshops and networking activities aimed at researchers, policymakers, land managers and early-career scientists.

Over 500 delegates, 230+ talks, Rising Star Plenaries and a sustainability focus

Organisers expect over 500 delegates from more than 40 countries to attend ICOM2026. The conference will feature four Rising Star Plenaries that give early-career researchers high-profile speaking slots. Associate Professor Jonathan M. Plett, ICOM2026 co-convenor, commented “We’re excited to bring this conference to Australia. The diversity of mycorrhizal research here is matched only by the diversity of the ecosystems themselves.” Janet Hamilton, General Manager of the Cairns Convention Centre, said the centre’s facilities and the region’s biodiversity provide a platform for discussion and collaboration. The event is supported by Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef.
