The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust (MCET), operators of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and the future Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, has released its Annual Report and Impact Report for 2023-24. The reports detail MCET’s contributions to Victoria’s economy and progress in sustainability and community engagement.

In 2023-24, MCET hosted 720 events, attracting 3.2 million visitors, a 23% increase from the previous year. Key events included the ASEAN Commemorative Summit and the Lions International Convention. These activities generated $777 million in economic impact for the State of Victoria.

Progress in Sustainability and Accessibility

MCET expanded its sustainability initiatives, introducing a reusable coffee cup program that served nearly 900,000 attendees and reduced landfill waste. A carbon emissions inventory was developed, encompassing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, to support the organisation’s net-zero target by 2050.

The Accessibility Action Plan, launched in 2023-24, was developed with input from accessibility experts and individuals with lived experience to enhance inclusivity across operations.
