Operated by the Victorian Convention and Event Trust, which also manages the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Nyaal Banyul marks the organisation’s first regional venue. The facility includes a 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition halls, conference and meeting spaces, flexible event areas, food and beverage outlets and a public outdoor plaza. Developed in partnership with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, the venue incorporates Indigenous cultural narratives throughout its architecture and visitor experience.

Regional business events and economic impact

Nyaal Banyul is expected to attract delegates, event organisers and visitors from across Australia while strengthening Geelong’s position in the national business events market. The venue will host a broad range of events, from community exhibitions and gala functions to national association conferences. Confirmed events include the Barwon Health Foundation Gala Ball, the Professional Conference Organisers Association conference and the Australian Tourism Awards in early 2027. The centre also supports regional employment, with most staff recruited from the Barwon South West region and more than 50 local businesses involved in catering, services and venue operations.
