The City of Vilnius has initiated an open global design competition to determine the architectural concept for the planned Vilnius Congress Centre, a project aimed at strengthening the city’s long-term competitiveness in the international meetings and events market. With a prize fund of 100,000 €, the competition focuses on a centrally located site next to the Lithuanian Parliament, where the new venue is planned to become a key asset for hosting large-scale congresses and high-level events.
Strategic venue to boost regional MICE competitiveness
City representatives emphasise the project’s role in elevating Vilnius as a leading destination in Central and Eastern Europe, noting the absence of a purpose-built venue capable of hosting more than 2,000 delegates. The planned 31,500 m² centre will feature 17 halls, including a 2,000-seat plenary, along with exhibition, meeting and public spaces. An international jury of architects and industry experts will evaluate submissions, with a winner to be announced in May 2026. A design contract is scheduled for June 2026, and construction could begin in 2029, targeting an early 2032 opening.
