Boston. The 2019 event was the third year to be hosted at The Broadmoor, one of ALHI’s first Level five members and the longest consecutive recipient of the prestigious Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond awards. This year’s event was breaking attendance records in IEC’s 20-year legacy.  Industry leaders from around the globe came in to support ALHI and to have a glimpse into the multi-million-dollar expansion and transformation of the luxury resort.

The Broadmoor Exhibit Hall will open in spring 2020. The design of this 125,000-square-foot facility closely matches The Broadmoor and connects directly to Broadmoor Hall with a 30-foot-wide walkway. The Broadmoor Exhibit Hall’s striking grand foyer, with large windows looking out to the mountains, will serve as ideal registration or function space. The area opens into a functional 93,500-square-foot exhibit hall, with polished concrete floors and 25-foot-high, black piped ceilings. The Broadmoor Exhibit Hall is surrounded by 32 breakout rooms, offering groups self-contained meeting space. The addition brings The Broadmoor to more than 310,000 square feet of flexible, functional meeting space of all sizes, from boardrooms to grand ballrooms, and now a specialized space to meet the needs of groups seeking a variety of venues.

The feedback of this year’s event and host hotel was very positive: “Returning to ALHI’s IEC this year served to cement my trust in the ALHI team, their commitment to our industry’s growth and success and the personal and professional dedication they honor to members, partners and clients,” said Jessica Clark of Health Learning, Research & Practice.

Holly Alfano, CEO of ILMA, concluded, “As a first-time attendee of IEC, I came away with much more than I anticipated: valuable insight and information on everything from legal issues to crisis communications to how the simplicity of kindness can be the extra advantage. And how wonderful to enjoy the incredible setting of The Broadmoor and learn of their new exhibition space.”

Along with sponsor Delta Air Lines, ALHI curated a comprehensive program of business, networking, philanthropic and social activities under the theme, “Elevating the Experience.” Industry speakers included ALHI’s Michael Dominguez, U.S. Travel Association’s Roger Dow, Delta Air Lines’ Rob LeBel and Mark Woodworth of CBRE Hotels. Topics ranged from the state of the industry to global conversations on crisis communication, security, law, liabilities and social media.

ALHI also hosted inspirational speakers such as former-NFL-player-turned-magician Jon Dorenbos, two-time Olympic medalist Shannon Bahrke, Hall of Fame Golfer Annika Sorenstam and Red Shoes Living entrepreneur Lonnie Mayne. The program also included a variety of wellness components: Dr. Romie Mushtag, who shared her insights on BrainSHIFT and led a session on office meditation; an Olympic training-inspired workout by Bahrke; golf with Sorenstam; and outdoor activities capitalizing on the Broadmoor’s privileged mountain location, including rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and more. All attendees departed with luxurious gifting provided by partners Maui Jim, Zeal Optics and the International Gifting Co.

Through ALHI’s partnership with the Above and Beyond Foundation and the help of IEC attendees raising 9088 euro during a live auction, together they recognized the unparalleled hospitality of the resort staff by presenting one deserving professional with the Heart of Hospitality Award. This award recognizes outstanding hospitality professionals by providing grants so that they can continue to thrive in their professions.
