Congress. European Cardiology Congress is one of the continent’s biggest events in the congress calendar and staging it requires precision organisation. Last August 30th to September 2nd, Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via halls successfully played host to 30,000 plus delegates from 140 countries with the vast majority of these specialists and consultants, again proving its stature and know how in the large events organisation.
And it wasn’t just the size of the event that impressed. Run by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the event’s organisation team claimed that were particularly happy with the quality of the abstracts and the number of medical advances showcased. It’s not the first time Fira de Barcelona has enjoyed success with cardiologists: just three years ago, it hosted the World Cardiology Congress, marking a real break-through for the Fira in terms of media exposure and international prestige. And earlier this year, it hosted the International Congress of Nuclear Cardiology.
The media impact from 2009’s was also very strong with major new studies and cutting edge research projects presented. In addition to the scientific programme, there was a 25,000-sqm-exhibition area with 250 exhibitors showcasing products and new technologies related to cardiology. Fira de Barcelona chiefs believe the success of this event will add further to the city’s reputation for hosting large medical congresses. www.barcelonaturisme.com
