Down Under. As 2009 draws to a close and we launch into a brand new decade, the Centre is embarking on an exciting new chapter of development and growth as BCEC on Grey Street, the Centre’s $130 million expansion of its convention facilities, starts to take shape.
The first phase of construction is proceeding well with the entire ground floor and first floor slab including initial works on the underground water storage tank due by Christmas. Structural steel works will commence in the New Year.
Early demand for bookings for BCEC on Grey Street has been high with 15 confirmed conventions and a further 33 bookings awaiting confirmation. A snapshot of the Centre’s activities during 2009 show that by year’s end, we will have we hosted 910 events, including 84 conventions.
Hand in hand with our business activities we have also had a very fulfilling year with the Centre’s Community Engagement Program with 106 staff members involved in more than 620 hours of community work – everything from donating more than 15,000 packaged meals to Brisbane’s homeless community to caring for lost dogs and rescue and renovation work at low cost accommodation units for hospital patients.
2010 will be something of a highlight year for us, with a busy calendar, the celebration of the Centre’s 15th anniversary of opening and the progress and construction milestones of BCEC on Grey Street.
We look forward to sharing and celebrating these events with you.
