The Celtic Manor Resort has renamed its conference centre to commemorate Ian Edwards, who had a significant role in developing the venue as a hub for major events. Edwards, who first served as the conference centre manager when the Resort Hotel opened in 1999, returned in 2008 and spearheaded numerous high-profile events, including the 2010 Ryder Cup and 2014 NATO Summit.
Commemorative Event Marks Renaming
The new name was unveiled during the “Celebration of Ian Edwards” event on November 22nd. Attended by over 300 guests, the event featured tributes from Edwards’s family and colleagues, video messages from Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan MS and Chairman Sir Terry Matthews, and the unveiling of a memorial plaque by Estelle Edwards and Simon Gibson CBE.
Simon Gibson described the renaming as a fitting tribute, highlighting Edwards’s pivotal role in the resort’s success and his impact on the events industry. “Ian was an inspirational business leader whose vision and dedication elevated the Celtic Manor Resort to global excellence. His impact reached far beyond his achievements with The Celtic Collection and ICC Wales and he leaves an indelible mark on the hospitality, tourism and events industries in the United Kingdom,” Gibson said.
