CIM: Mr. Jebsen, can we prevent the end of the world?
Boris Jebsen: In the case of man-made disasters such as climate change, it all depends on whether common sense will prevail. Hence, an external apocalyptic event might even be the “better” option. Today, we could already deflect some asteroids with our current technology, think ‘impulse transfer’.

In 2009 you organised the Droidcon developer congress, in 2019 the “Children of Doom” festival – what‘s coming up in 2029?
Perhaps a joint festival in honour of our ‘beloved extraterrestrial rulers’ who occupied the earth, plundered our resources and subjugated mankind in 2026. Such intercultural festivals could reduce tension and appease the aliens.

How does your creativity manifest itself?
In insomnia and restlessness. I read a lot and regularly talk to a lot of people. All this information from various sources creates patterns in my head and at some point it goes click – often at 3 in the morning – and the night is over for me

Imagination plus facts plus creativity equals …
… infinite possibilities! All three come together in what is probably the most amazing organ in our known universe – the human brain. And it‘s been powering ahead for millions of years.

Why are events predestined for a reinvention?
Because maintaining the status quo means going backwards. The way people want to spend their time is constantly changing. Organisers need to react and find the formula that enables attendees to have a successful day.

Thank you kindly, Mr. Jebsen!
