Up and coming. The four largest conferences held in Glasgow this year have each attracted a record-breaking number of delegates. The World Congress on Pain (6,000 delegates), the International Confederation of Midwives (3,650), the International Astronautical Congress (2,100), and the European Sleep Research Society conference (1,400) were all held at the the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC). Molly Doheny, the head of the CVB at GCMB, said: “I think it shows the attractiveness of the destination and the quality of the science in Glasgow.” GCMB’s Convention Bureau secured £151 million in conference sales, which equated to 543,000 delegate days and an 11 per cent increase over the previous year. www.seeglasgow.com
