Located in Guangzhou’s Nansha District on the western bank of the historic Pearl River, the Sports Centre is undergoing its final phases of construction. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with the Guangdong Architectural Design & Research Institute, the centre features a 60,000-seat stadium, a 20,000-seat arena, and a 4,000-seat aquatics centre, along with extensive supporting facilities. The project commenced on 31 August 2023, with main structures topping out in February 2024 and roofing installations completed in February 2025.

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure and Strategic Location

Set within a 70-hectare park that incorporates flood protection measures and wetlands, the centre is strategically positioned in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area—projected to reach 100 million inhabitants by 2030. Accessible via Guangzhou Metro Line 18 and the new Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, the facility is designed to provide optimal conditions for both competitive sports and cultural events. The architectural design features fluid, layered roof structures that facilitate natural ventilation and shading, reflecting traditional design inspirations while meeting modern performance requirements.
