Green Capital. Hamburg will spread the message of “European Green Capital 2011” throughout Europe by a “Train of Ideas”. The central theme addresses how cities of the future may attain sustainable, environmentally friendly cities with a high quality of life. The exhibition features the Hanseatic city’s excellent best practice projects from the metropolitan region. Additionally, numerous cities are invited to present their innovative environmental projects as well. The train will visit 18 cities, including Warsaw, Malmö, Copenhagen, Brussels, Vienna, Barcelona and Marseille. The „Train of Ideas“ was a deciding factor for the jury in Hamburg’s European Green Capital 2011 application. The applicants had to demonstrate an ability to serve as European Green Capital on both a regional and international level. Kunstraum GFK mbH developed the concept for the Ministry for Urban Development and Environment. The „Train of Ideas“ exhibition will prepare themes surrounding urban development and living, mobility, energy and climate protection, nature and city greenery, resource protection, economy and consumption.
