Melbourne. After being awarded the 2010 Victorian Architecture Medal in June 2010, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was awarded in Canberra on the 28 October 2010 the National Award for Public Architecture. Joint Venture Architects Woods Bagot and NH Architecture proudly accepted the award at the architecture industry’s night of nights. MCEC’s chief executive Leigh Harry said “This is a great honour and another great outcome for everyone involved in the design and development of the MCEC”.
With an 18 metre high glass wall façade fronting the Yarra River, the MCEC was designed with the environment in mind and is the first and only convention centre in the world to achieve a Six Star Green Star environmental rating.
