Benefits. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) provides a framework for reporting on sustainable initiatives, providing a mixture of qualitative and quantitative indicators, in order to communicate how efficiently sustainability has been managed. Guy Bigwood, Sustainability Director, MCI Group: MCI used the new GRi G3.1 framework and reported on 26 indicators. GRI reviewed and awarded MCI a C-level certificate. This is the first time a large agency has gone through this processes and had the application level verified by GRI. I can’t say it’s easy. The first time is a tough process for a company the size of MCI with 1000+ staff and 46 offices. But the process has a lot of hidden benefits and really improves staff engagement and sustainability strategy in general. According to Guy Bigwood, it allows to discover key facts about the business. Recently MCI had a really tough RFP from IBM. We could not have properly answered all the questions if we had not gone through the GRI reporting process. It now makes our sales life much easier. “We are very proud that leaders for many of the key global sustainability initiatives including the Global Compact, the Climate Group and GRI now place their trust in us to help them create and produce their events”, says Roger Tondeur, MCI founder. MCIs efforts in sustainability go further than complying with documented guidelines. In 2010, 957 employees, in 45 offices around the world, raised over 74,000 Euro in support of socially responsible causes.
