The prestigious award acknowledges MCEC’s significant contribution to Australia’s tourism industry through outstanding event services and facilities. Chief Executive Natalie O’Brien AM highlighted the venue’s commitment to inclusivity: “Our team works incredibly hard to create a space where everyone feels included. This award is recognition for the entire MCEC team who go above and beyond to deliver memorable experiences for every guest.”
Pioneering Accessibility Initiatives
MCEC has established itself as an industry leader in accessibility, becoming Australia’s first convention centre to appoint an external Accessibility Advisory Committee. This initiative ensures that insights from lived experiences are incorporated into venue planning and operations. The centre’s new menus, “2025 With Purpose” and “Something for Everyone,” reflect this inclusive approach while emphasizing sustainable, local produce.
Professional Development and Industry Growth
In partnership with RMIT University, MCEC has launched a successful Audio-Visual Technician Graduate Traineeship Program. The program has already seen five graduates complete their training and secure permanent positions within MCEC’s audio-visual team, demonstrating the centre’s commitment to developing industry talent.
Victoria’s Tourism Minister Steve Dimopoulos praised MCEC’s achievements, noting that “Victoria is Australia’s major events capital and there is no place quite like the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre when it comes to hosting the latest conference or event.”
