792,000 attendees. Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau has published a study on congresses hosted in 2011 in Paris and the Paris region. The Bureau counted 995 congresses (+3.8 % compared to 2010) — on average 83 congresses per month, almost 3 per day — and drew 792,000 visitors (+18 %, compared to 2010). The medical sector accounted for the majority of congresses. 48% of congresses held in Paris and the Paris region were medical congresses. The congress of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the biggest congress ever hosted in Paris (33,000 participants), confirms this trend.
Although in 2011, scientific venues hosted more events (302) than venues dedicated specifically to congresses (288), the latter still gathered the most congress attendees (as they have a bigger capacity): 70 % of congress attendees. Also in 2012 the calendar of congresses is well-filled. For example, EAU (international congress on urology, 13,000 participants), followed by Euro PCR (congress on cardiovascular interventions, 12,000 participants), Euroanaesthesia (10,000 participants) and the WCH (world congress on haemophilia, 6,000 participants).
