A new report from bnetwork, Sustainable Hospitality: Understanding the Priorities of Today’s Event Attendees, sheds light on the evolving expectations of event attendees regarding sustainability. Drawing on insights from nearly 700 respondents across industries such as advertising, healthcare, technology, and retail, the report highlights the growing demand for ethical and environmentally responsible practices in event accommodations.

Ethics, Action, and Transparency Drive Decisions

The survey reveals three key priorities shaping attendee preferences:

  1. People-first Priorities: Attendees value the fair and ethical treatment of employees, as well as inclusivity and accessibility, which are seen as crucial for building trust and credibility.
  2. Meaningful Ecological Actions: Guests seek impactful sustainability initiatives, such as energy and water conservation, waste reduction, and resource preservation, rather than superficial claims.
  3. Trust and Transparency: Honest communication about sustainability practices is essential to earning trust and avoiding perceptions of greenwashing. Over a third of respondents identified transparency as a critical factor in their decision-making.

The survey, conducted via bnetwork’s channels and partnerships with major industry organizers such as RX Global, EASL, and TFWA, underscores the opportunity for hospitality leaders to enhance trust, build credibility, and meet the rising demand for sustainable practices in event accommodations.
