Beijing. The China National Convention Center (CNCC) has been selected as one of the key venues for the APEC series of meetings in 2014. The 2014 Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) will be held at Beijing's Yanqi Lake, located in the scenic Yanqi Township, Huairou District, 60 kilometers and about 30 minutes' drive North from the CNCC and about 30 minutes' drive from Beijing Capital International Airport.
Other major meetings of the APEC 2014 Economic Leaders' Week will be held at the China National Convention Center, in the heart of the Olympic Park, adjacent to the Bird Nest and the Water Cube which served as the main media center and international broadcasting center as well as the venue for fencing and air pistol events during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In 2001, APEC adopted the Shanghai Accord, which focused on “Broadening the APEC Vision, Clarifying the Roadmap to Bogor and Strengthening the Implementation Mechanism”. The e-APEC Strategy was adopted, which set out an agenda to strengthen market structures and institutions, facilitate infrastructure investment and technology for on-line transactions and promote entrepreneurship and human capacity building. APEC's first Counter-Terrorism Statement was issued.
APEC returns to China after a 13 year gap; in 2001 it was held in Shanghai this time it will be held in Beijing in November 2014. Meetings include informal leadership meetings, the Ministerial Conference, senior officials and various other meetings series. The theme of the summit is: “To build for the future of the Asia-Pacific partnership”.
