Rimini. Psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, doctors, nurses, representatives of NGOs and government institutions from all over Europe and further afield will flock to Italian Exhibition Group’s Palacongressi di Rimini from 21 to 24 June 2020. An estimated 700 people (totalling 2,800 overnight stays) will gather to discuss the most suitable solutions and prevention actions to combat the phenomena of child abuse and neglect. The Rimini venue was in fact chosen to host the annual European conference organised by ISPCAN, The International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect based in Denver, Colorado (USA).
This victory coincides with the 30th anniversary of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in a global context with extremely worrying numbers: five children die every day due to abuse and over one billion are subjected to forms of violence.
ISPCAN, operating for 40 years in 200 countries, already has a busy schedule of international and “regional” appointments for the areas that, in addition to Europe, include, for example, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America. In mid-September, a conference will be held in Muscat, Oman, followed by one in Ar-Rayyan in Qatar (February 2020), and then here to the city of Rimini.
Another important win for Italian Exhibition Group, which brings to a total of 5, the international conferences already scheduled at the Palacongressi, between May and September 2020, for a total of 4,400 participants and approximately20,400 overnight stays. In fact, Spring 2020 will kick off with the ISS International Strawberry Symposium, (May 2-5), followed in June by the ISPCAN Conference and, from June 26 to July 1, the SWESD – Social Work Education and Social Development congress. For those involved in inorganic chemistry, the ICCC, International Conference on Coordination Chemistry will be held from 5 to 10 July. From September 13 to 16, the venue will host professionals in the fields of medicine, physics, engineering and computer science, thanks to CinC – Computing in Cardiology Conference, dedicated to the latest frontiers of bioengineering applied to clinical cardiology and cardiovascular physiology.
The Palacongressi Rimini bid for ISPCAN had many factors in its favour. First and foremost the work done by the Ambassador of the IEG Event & Conference Division, Tiziana Valer of AUSL Romagna, the regional representative of CISMAI – Italian Coordinated Response to Child Abuse and Neglect, member of ISPCAN. The destination itself also played an important role. Rimini, with its strong appeal is steadily affirming itself as the capital of all year round good living, a community with solid ties, but open to the world and capable of benefiting from international events that present opportunities to weave new relationships, promote exchanges and raise its standard of expertise and knowledge.
