Sarawak will host the 11th Asia Pacific Regional Conference of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease from 23 to 26 March 2028 in Kuching. The event coincides with World Tuberculosis Day and marks the first time the conference is held in Borneo. Organisers estimate an economic impact of RM8.2 million. The conference will convene participants from across the Asia Pacific region to address challenges related to tuberculosis and other lung diseases.

Regional collaboration to address tuberculosis and lung health challenges

Tuberculosis remains a major public health issue, with ongoing challenges including drug resistance, delayed diagnosis and unequal access to care. In Sarawak, initiatives such as the use of portable handheld X-ray technology are being implemented to improve early detection, particularly in remote communities. APRC 2028 will include workshops, plenary sessions, symposiums and community outreach activities. The event is organised by the Malaysian Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis in collaboration with national and regional partners, with support from the Sarawak government and Business Events Sarawak.
