Taipei. Taiwan‘s medicine and pharmaceutical industry has been known around the world for its remarkable pool of talent, superb technology and advanced equipment. Coupled with the continued improvement and upgrade of its MICE infrastructure and high quality MICE handling and execution capacity, in recent years, more and more international pharmaceutical companies and medical associations are showing strong interest in exploring the feasibility of hosting their respective international conferences in Taiwan. As a result, Taiwan’s relevant industrial organizations or chapters of international medical and pharmaceutical associations have more and more chances to host major international conferences, and they are steadily building up a track record in this field. Among the many conventions won for Taipei in 2010 were: the 10th Asia Congress of Urology, the 5th Asian Congress of Pediatric Infectious Disease, the 2nd Asia-Oceanian Congress of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, and so on. This year (2011) marks the 100th year of the founding of the Republic of China, and it is expected that during this centennial year, the Asian and Oceanics Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the 9th Meeting of the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, the 8th Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension 2011, 8th APCH 2011, and the World Psychiatric Association Regional Conference (among many others) will all take place in Taiwan.
International medical and pharmaceutical conferences focus on exploring new innovative technologies and future trends, and leading professionals in these industries played key roles in winning the bids to host major international conferences in Taiwan. A significant factor in Taiwan’s MICE success lies in its vast range of diverse resources and experienced and skilled event professionals. For example, for the 10th Asian Congress of Urology of the Urological Association of Asia(ACU), which was held in 2010, special arrangements were made to invite established doctors of foreign nationalities to conduct live operations simultaneously at the Renai Branch, Taipei City Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital. In cooperation with television professionals, live broadcasts of the operations were fed through the SNG, so that all participants could observe the two surgical procedures and study sophisticated medical technology. This initiative received unanimous praise from all participants.
