Many countries have been heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. How is Rotterdam currently dealing with this crisis?
Rotterdam is a resilient city, through perseverance and cooperation, we know how to look ahead and stay positive. Together with our partners within the city we look at opportunities and work closely together to make the best of it. The approach is two sided: we try to attract business from nearby (as we are well situated and connected) and focus on the longer future, which fortunately works for the association business.
The MICE industry is also struggling during these difficult times. How do you think this will change our industry, and what measures can be taken, in your opinion?
Basically people tend to wish to get back to the way it was, and very soon, whenever it is possible. Nevertheless, people will also be more conscious of decisions they make, on travelling, for instance . Furthermore the way we will meet has changed and will continue to change. Innovation and creativity will create a new way of meeting. Especially the online opportunities will evolve quickly and as Rotterdam is an innovative city we will stay on top of these chances and co-create together with our clients, to facilitate this new way of meeting.

Personal recommendation/insider tips?
I would recommend all waterfront locations, as Rotterdam is the largest port of Europe, being in connection with the water is unavoidable. Going to the former port area will give you a whole new perspective on this creative port city. And of course take a watertaxi and enjoy the ride!
