Top spot.For the third consecutive year, Singapore has clinched the top spot as the “Top International Meeting City” in the Union of International Associations (UIA) 2009 Global Rankings category, beating cities such as Brussels, Paris, Vienna, Geneva and Berlin. Singapore also retained its ranking as Asia’s Top Convention City for the 11th time. According to ICCA’s (International Congress and Convention Association) “global city rankings”, the destination is the only Asian City within the top 5. Beijing is the only other Asian City within the top 10, while Seoul have fallen out of the top 10 to 11 spot for this year.
The UIA is a non-profit, apolitical, independent, and non-governmental research institute and documentation centre founded in 1907 focusing on research, monitoring and provision of information on international organizations, international associations and their global challenges. ICCA is one of the most prominent organizations in the world of international meetings and conventions. ICCA has 900 suppliers to the international meetings industry across the globe, with members in 85 countries.
