The Lithuanian capital Vilnius is preparing to host international sports events in the coming months. The city was chosen as the destination for the Billie Jean King Cup women‘s tennis tournament, the FIFA Futsal World Cup, and the European youth championships in orienteering and volleyball.

On 15-19 June, Vilnius will play host to the Billie Jean King Cup on an indoor hard court where a tennis “bubble” will be in place to ensure the safety of over 400 participants from 23 countries. The calendar of sporting events will also include this year’s Eastern European (EEVZA) U-18 and U-19 Beach Volleyball Championship, the European Youth Orienteering Championship and the FIFA Futsal World Cup, starting on 12 September and lasting for three weeks.

Along with the championships, Vilnius is gearing up to have these events create long-lasting effects and increase awareness of various sports, making it easier and more affordable for people to stay healthy and active, according to Go Vilnius, the official tourism and business development agency of the City of Vilnius.

“We are very pleased that such a wide variety of high-profile sporting events have chosen Vilnius as a host and we look forward to welcoming athletes from around the globe to our city. These events will help bolster Vilnius’ position as a perfect destination for high-level international sporting events,” says Inga Romanovskienė, Head of Go Vilnius.
