VisitAarhus. The Scandinavian Sustainability Index, created by the ICCA Scandinavia Chapter, received a regional tourism award in Denmark for its innovative approach to destination marketing and for strengthening the green competencies of local tourism businesses not only in Central Jutland, but in all Nordic countries.
It was Region Midtjylland in Central Jutland, Denmark, who awarded VisitAarhus their newly formed Tourism Growth Award. With the award the Region wishes to encourage anyone focusing on creating sustainable solutions, jobs and competency development within the tourism industry.
The Tourism Growth Award was given to the 'Scandinavian Destination Sustainability Index' and accepted by the Director of VisitAarhus, Peer H. Kristensen. It implies that the Central Region of Jutland (Region Midtjylland) is dedicated to being part of the world's first classified sustainable meeting region, where meeting providers - including their respective municipalities - are to comply with 16 sustainability parameters, in order to contribute to a sustainable Nordic region.
'VisitAarhus is just one of ICCA's 950 member companies and organizations in 87 countries worldwide. For the last 3 years, ICCA has focused heavily on 'sustainability', and our Scandinavian Chapter has succeeded in creating an unprecedented 'Scandinavian Sustainability Index'. This was only possible due to the cooperation and specialist knowledge within the worldwide organization, and is a great platform for working more focused on sustainability matters with our local business partners,' says Peer H. Kristensen.
On January 1st 2013 VisitAarhus will become the next Chair of the Scandinavian ICCA Chapter. To mark the occassion, VisitAarhus will host a conference for the Nordic ICCA members on 5th March 2013.
