Bangkok. Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) disclosed that the outlook of Thailand’s MICE industry in the Quarter 1 of fiscal year 2013 (October 2012-September 2013) reflected the 14.10 per cent growth compared with similar quarter of the fiscal year 2012.
Mr. Thongchai Sridama, Acting President of TCEB, revealed that, “The bureau’s performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013 is remarkable. The overall picture has seen 177,699 foreign MICE travellers which generated total revenue of 15,103 million baht or 14.10 per cent growth compared with similar quarter of the previous year. It is anticipated that Thai MICE industry will grow by 15 per cent by the end of Quarter 2 (January-March 2013) which shall be the result of timely rebranding and strategic marketing campaigns initiated from time to time by the bureau,”
The Quarter 1’s performance indicated that incentives segment has been able to draw largest volume of MICE travellers into Thailand or 57,214 persons which accounted for 32 per cent. Respective segments include 30 per cent of convention; 21 per cent of corporate meetings and 17 per cent of exhibitions. On the revenue facet, international convention has generated highest amount of revenue into the country or 5,311 million baht.
“TCEB is moving fast to expand in high-potential Asian markets, particularly countries in the ASEAN Plus Six group, enabling the regional MICE markets to continue to dominate as much as 57.68 per cent of overall market or equal to 27.09 per cent growth compared with previous year. Asian MICE travellers accounted for 102,501 persons or equaled to 8,711 million baht in revenue. Statistics of top 5 MICE travellers entering into Thailand indicated that most travellers were from the ASEAN Plus Six nations. These include India, China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia, respectively. Further, it is foreseen that marketing strategy of TCEB in exploring new markets in Asia will pave the way for the growth of Thailand’s MICE industry in the Quarter 2 responding to our goal. Meanwhile, American market has shown tendency for recovery as the growth rate has surged by 17.15 per cent,” added Mr. Thongchai.
