Next week, the city of Antwerp will welcome over 1,000 global experts for the 63rd International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) Annual Scientific Meeting, taking place from September 22-25, 2024. This event will focus on the latest advancements in spinal cord injury (SCI) research, care, and rehabilitation. With around 40 wheelchair users attending, accessibility will be central to the conference, making Antwerp’s inclusive infrastructure a fitting choice for this global gathering.

Antwerp’s Accessibility Sets a New Standard for Global Scientific Conferences

Antwerp’s selection as the host city reflects its progressive approach to accessibility, with barrier-free public transport, tactile paving, and wheelchair-friendly city routes ensuring smooth mobility for all attendees. Antwerp Convention Bureau, in collaboration with VISITFLANDERS and other local partners, is aiming to ensure every aspect of the event meets the highest accessibility standards. The host venue, A Room with a ZOO, exemplifies this commitment, offering wheelchair-friendly spaces and direct access to international train connections.

The ISCoS 2024 program includes an array of keynote speeches, workshops, and scientific exhibitions. Leading voices in the field will present their research, while networking sessions will foster collaboration among healthcare professionals and researchers. Topics will range from ageing and female health to psychosocial impacts and cutting-edge translational research, making this an essential event for the spinal cord injury community.
