Ottawa Tourism Presents Responsible Events Guide

Ottawa Tourism has launched a Responsible Events Guide to help planners deliver sustainable, inclusive and community-focused meetings in Canada’s capital. The guide debuts at IMEX Frankfurt (20–22 May), showcasing Ottawa’s leadership in responsible destination management.

Ottawa Tourism introduced its Responsible Events Guide, a practical toolkit designed to support event professionals in making eco-friendly, accessible and socially impactful choices. Packed with decision-making tools, local partnerships and detailed recommendations—from plant-based catering to food recovery and accessibility measures—the guide serves as a one-stop resource for planners at all stages of their sustainability journey.

Supporting Sustainable and Inclusive Meetings

Key features include a Planning Decision Tree for waste reduction, menu planning strategies that prioritize local and seasonal ingredients, and details on Ottawa’s À la Carte Food Recovery Program in partnership with La Tablée des Chefs. The guide also offers accessibility best practices, circular-economy trade show advice, social impact partnerships—such as Indigenous Markets and tree-planting—and storytelling tactics to communicate sustainability efforts effectively.
