Dubai. A successful bid for the Human Genome Meeting in 2011 has been successful for Dubai following a joint presentation by the Dubai Convention Bureau and Dubai World Trade Centre, in conjunction with the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies (CAGS).

The news paves the way for related meetings in Dubai where the third Arab Human Genetics conference will take place later this year – according to Dr Ghazi Tadmouri, assistant director CAGS, the meeting will be held concurrently with a symposium ongenomics and hereditable disorder organized by the Human Genome Organisation (HUGO): “This will also involve international organisations, including the World Health Organisation,” he said.

The Human Genome Meeting is a series of annual conferences organised by HUGO with an aim to update and increase knowledge in the evolving field of human genome research, and it is considered a major event for both renowned scientists and young investigators – the Dubai meeting will be a boost to this branch of the medical sector in the region since it is the first time the event has been held in the Arab world.

According to director of the Dubai Convention Bureau, Jerad Bachar, gaining the approval of HUGO to hold the 2011 congress is a great accomplishment for Dubai , increasing its stature on the world stage as a major meeting venue.   “To have the leaders from all aspects of genetic sciences in Dubaiis a great honour,” he said. “This goal has been obtained through continuing partnership and collaboration with the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies and the Dubai World Trade Centre, and exemplifies the goal of the emirate to work through public and private partnerships to achieve a role in the global meetings industry.” HGM 2011 will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. www.dcb.ae
