Business Events Sydney. NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner congratulated Business Events Sydney’s (BESydney) Ambassadors for their assistance with generating almost $400 million in economic impact for New South Wales (NSW). Speaking at the annual Ambassador Dinner and Investiture, Mr Stoner acknowledged the value of business events as a key driver of both the State’s visitor and knowledge economies. “Business events benefit not only our economy, but our communities and our industries, through the opportunities they create for global networking, trade and investment, information exchange and innovation,” Mr Stoner said.

As Patron of the Ambassador Program, the Deputy Premier formally announced 20 new Ambassadors and 4 new Future Leaders. The group included leaders who represented the NSW Government’s priority sectors, an initiative that forms part of the recently released NSW Economic Development Framework. The NSW Government is collaborating even more closely with BESydney, the state’s convention bureau, to align business events to the Government’s priority sectors and international markets, which have recently expanded from 6 to 10. “The NSW Government acknowledges that business events play a valuable role in helping us to raise the global profile of Sydney and NSW, collaborate to drive innovation and competitiveness and to demonstrate leadership,” Mr Stoner said. “The Ambassador Program brings together some of Australia’s, and the world’s, industry leaders from a wide range of disciplines including medicine, science, agriculture, arts, and business. Their support is key to the success of business events in our state.”

BESydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith said that following last night’s investitures, the bureau now had 78 Ambassadors and 8 Future Leaders, with plans to expand the programs even further over the next year. “Not only are our Ambassadors passionate about their work, they’re passionate about Sydney and NSW. Their expertise and esteemed reputations are absolutely invaluable,” Ms Lewis-Smith said.  “I have no doubt that, in 2013, our Ambassadors and Future Leaders will continue to help BESydney to secure a diverse mix of events across a growing range of industry sectors and cement our position as Australia’s premier business event destination.”
