São Paulo. The 43rd WorldSkills Competition, the greatest vocational education and skills excellence Competition in the world, will take place from 12 to 15 August 2015 in São Paulo. This is the first time the event will be held in Latin America.

Over1,150 young skilled Competitors are expected from 59 countries and regions. They will compete in 50 different skills related to trades, technologies, and service- oriented careers, such as Mobile Robotics, Mechanical Engineering Design – CAD, Welding, CNC Turning, Industrial Control, Web Design, and Bakery.

The organizers, WorldSkills International and the National Service for Industrial Training – SENAI, expect approximately 200,000 visitors, to visit the skill competitions and participate in the Competition side events. The Opening Ceremony will take place on 11 August at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium.

Young professionals, under the age of 22 the year, must complete real-life tasks, which are based on industry standards. For instance, young professionals competing in the Mechatronics category need to developan automated system for an industrial process, such as placing tops on drink bottles; the CNC Turning Competitors have to produce metal parts and components using a computer; the Joinery Competitors need to build complex wooden structures; and the Bakery Competitors have to bake several types of bread.

This is the first time the WorldSkills Competition will take place in a Latin American country. In the past years, the biennial Competition has been hosted in Shizuoka, Japan (2007), Calgary, Canada (2009), London, United Kingdom (2011), and Leipzig, Germany (2013).

“Organizing such a great event in Brazil demonstrates the importance of vocational education for companies, government, and society,” said Frederico Lamego, CEO of WorldSkills São Paulo 2015.
The Competition will occupy 213,000 sqm in Anhembi Park, including the Samsung Pavilion, the Sambadrome, and Convention Palace. This is the greatest event ever hosted at Anhembi Park, and the first time in history that all three areas are used simultaneously.
