With over 500 hosted buyers and exhibitors from 35 countries and more than 3,600 pre-arranged meetings, Conventa 2025 proved why it remains a cornerstone event in New Europe.
The event began on an inspiring note, with Fredi Fontanot, Director of the Slovenian Convention Bureau, setting the stage for what was to come. “Events are not just gatherings; they are catalysts for innovation and development,” he declared. His vision for the industry—rooted in cooperation, measurable results, and sustainability—resonated deeply, setting a tone of purpose and possibility. Boštjan Koritnik, Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the meetings industry’s vital role in the city’s growth and officially inaugurating the event with pride.
Focus on Sustainability
Gorazd Čad, Co-founder of Conventa, took the stage to share his thoughts on what it truly means to champion sustainability. “Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a responsibility,” he said. “It’s about backing up our words with action at every touchpoint—no shortcuts, no gimmicks. We must inspire people to go beyond talking points and take real, measurable action.” His message was a call to arms, urging the industry to embrace sustainability not as an option but as a necessity.
One of the most memorable moments was *Conventa 42° North*, an educational networking segment that brought together some of the brightest minds in the industry. Esteemed speakers tackled pressing challenges and explored emerging opportunities, sparking conversations that continued long after the sessions ended. It was a reminder that Conventa isn’t just about meetings—it’s about creating a space where ideas flourish and connections deepen.
Sustainability was at the heart of Conventa 2025, and it showed. The organizers implemented the CONVENTA 7R model—Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, Recreate, Regenerate—to minimize environmental impact. Attendees could visit the Green Info Point, where the green team shared insights into Conventa’s sustainable journey through interactive displays.
Exploring Ljubljana
The Conventa Walk and Talk initiative was another highlight, encouraging participants to explore Ljubljana on foot. Detailed maps highlighted distances, step counts, and even estimated calories burned, turning a simple walk into a meaningful act of sustainability. It wasn’t just about reducing carbon emissions; it was about experiencing Ljubljana’s charm firsthand and fostering connections along the way.
The event also celebrated industry leaders. Marko Guček, Managing Director of GoOpti from Slovenia, was inducted into the Conventa Hall of Fame for his unwavering support and partnership. Ildiko Lippai, Head of Strategic Development at the Budapest Convention Bureau in Hungary, received the Conventa Ambassador Award for her efforts in strengthening ties between Hungary, Slovenia, and Conventa. And the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Srečo Peterlič, a true pioneer of congress tourism in Slovenia, whose legacy continues to inspire. In addition, the Meetings Star awards celebrated excellence in destinations, venues, and influencers.
2026 Event is Set
Conventa’s dedication to sustainability extended to measuring its carbon footprint in collaboration with Planet Positive Event, aligning with the European CSRD Directive. This transparent approach underscored Conventa’s commitment to leading by example. As the curtains closed on Conventa 2025, the excitement for the future was palpable. The 2026 edition is already set for February 10-12 in Ljubljana.
