The Events & Conference division of Italian Exhibition Group will host the next edition of the quadrennial International Conference of the IAG, the International Association of Geodesy that promotes scientific cooperation and research in geodesy on a global, regional and local scale.

The scientific event with approximately 500 participants will be held for the first time in Italy, from 1 to 5 September 2025 at the Palacongressi in Rimini. The latest edition took place this year in Beijing, with previous editions held in Japan, Germany, and Argentina.

Several decisive elements led to the IAG Council choice to select Italy and consequently, Rimini, which was in contention with four other competing cities: Paris, Wroclaw, Algiers, and Hyderabad (India).

The bid was presented by the University of Bologna, with particular input from the Department of Physics and Astronomy together with that of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering (DICAM).

The bid was also successful thanks to the support of the Italian delegate on the Council of the International Association of Geodesy (Professor Mattia Crespi – Sapienza University of Rome) and the national geodetic community.

The scientific topics to be addressed during the Conference will be of great significance: the program will in fact also focus on the significant contribution that geodesy offers to the study of very pressing issues such as the effects of climate change on the environment, as well as the anthropic factors affecting the planet. Melting of glaciers, subsidence phenomena, meteorological forecasts through GPS are just some of the issues that will be addressed.

“The Palacongressi di Rimini submitted locations and technologies at the highest level, necessary elements for staging this type of international event”, explains Professor Susanna Zerbini of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Alma Mater who, alongside the director of DICAM, Professor Stefano Gandolfi, presented and supported the IEG’s bid.

Italian Exhibition Group S.p.A. is a joint stock company listed on Euronext Milan, a regulated market organised and managed by Borsa Italiana S.p.A., with facilities in Rimini and Vicenza.
