The Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the European Society of Cardiology will hold its next annual congress in May 2022 in IFEMA Madrid. This announcement comes a few months after the ESC selected Madrid as host venue for its global congress for 2025.
The HFA works to improve quality of life and longevity through better prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart failure. It comprises more than 10,000 members, and past Heart Failure congresses have hosted 5,500 to 6,000 delegates at their in-person editions. The 2021 edition took place online from 29th June to 1st July, with an increased attendance of 8,100. “We will meet again – and I mean really meet –in Madrid in May 2022″, HFA President Prof. Andrew Coats said.
IFEMA Madrid hosted two congresses for related cardiology sub-specialty associations of the ESC in recent years: EHRA 2021 online (European Heart Rhythm Association) and EuroEcho 2009 (European Association for Cardiovascular Imaging). In addition, the largest global event in cardiology will be arriving at the venue in 2025 with a significant deployment of media: ESC Congress 2025 will occupy practically the whole fairground, spread over 10 halls, as well as the North Convention Centre and meeting rooms throughout the entire complex.
Beyond education of medical specialists, the HFA and the ESC – whose mission is to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease – also promote patient awareness. In this respect, the HFA website for heart-failure patients and their caregivers, heartfailurematters.org, features educational content in a variety of formats, including easy-to-understand, captivating animations explaining heart failure and how it can be managed.
