Cairns will gain a key connection to North America in April 2025 with the introduction of direct flights to Fiji by Fiji Airways. The new route, operating three times a week, will reduce travel times by up to three hours from cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas, providing a streamlined travel option for international visitors. The service is expected to enhance Cairns’ appeal as a destination for conferences, events, and tourism, contributing to economic growth in the region. The route, operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, will provide approximately 53,000 additional seats annually, offering complimentary Wi-Fi for all passengers.
Improved Accessibility for International Visitors
With connections via Fiji Airways’ North American network, travelers from the US will benefit from shorter travel times and fewer transfers. The route also supports Cairns Convention Centre, making it easier for international delegates to attend major events. Upcoming conferences, such as the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association Congress, are expected to benefit from the improved connectivity.
