Medical congress. A joint international congress of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS) and Estonian Sleep Medicine Association (ESMA) will take place in Nordea Concert Hall, in Tallinn on 16.-20. September. It will be the biggest medical congress of the kind ever held in Estonia. 1500 delegates from over more than 60 countries are expected to take part. „Hosting such an outstanding scientific congress is a compliment to Estonia and Tallinn as an international association meeting destination“ says Kadri Karu, Managing Director of Estonian Convention Bureau. The ESRS was established in 1972 with the aim of implementing the results of the research in clinical medicine. The ESMA following the principles of the ESRS and was set up in 2005.

„Sleep is an important part of our everyday lives which has to be valued throughout one`s life to maintain good health and stamina,“ says Erve Sõõru, the pulmonologist-somnologist oh the North Estonian Medical Centre, President of the ESMA, chairman of the local organising committee. Sleep research in considered to be a high-technological multi-disciplinarian field of science, which deals with the prevention, diagnosis and cure of sleep disorders and advocating normal sleep.

A wide range of various sleep disorders, from driver`s sleepiness to narcolepsy, from children`s oversleeping to restless legs syndrome will be discussed. Various workshops, video-sessions, round-table discussions, forums, etc. will take place simultaneously in 4-5 separate halls. Also an extensive poster session and industry exhibition will take place in parallel to the scientific sessions.

An animated film „Institute of The Dream“ by Mati Kütt is going to be shown. More than 400 pictures related to the subjects by Estonian school children will be displayed and the participants will be able to enjoy the concerts by the girls choir Ellerhein and folk dance from Kapak as well as walking tours of Good Sleep in the Old Town in the evenings.
