Birmingham Secures Two Major Medical Conferences

The Eastside Rooms and Birmingham & West Midlands Convention Bureau will host the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) and LabMedUK26 in 2026. Together, the events are expected to draw over 600 delegates and generate more than £140,000 in local economic impact.

Following a successful partnership bid, The Eastside Rooms and the Birmingham & West Midlands Convention Bureau have won the rights to host two flagship medical conferences in 2026: the BSSH Scientific Meeting and LabMedUK26. These wins reinforce Birmingham’s role within the Knowledge Quarter, which boasts leading universities, research facilities, and hospital infrastructure.

Boosting Bio-Medical Tourism and Local Economy

With over 600 delegates expected, the conferences will drive hotel stays, dining, and transport spending, projecting an economic benefit exceeding £140,000. Councillor John Cotton highlighted the collaboration’s role in showcasing Birmingham’s life-science credentials, while conference presidents praised the city’s transport links, academic proximity, and commitment to accessibility and sustainability.
