Survey. Do you have questions about the efficiency of the meetings you attend? Then you are not alone, a large-scale survey on the meeting experiences of managers and directors unveils. Apparently, half of the business leaders in Europe have the impression they just meet and meet and never get anything done. The survey results pinpoint the obstacles to effective meetings, and list a number of possible solutions.

European managers tend to meet a lot more than their American counterparts. But by spending more time in meetings, the perceived efficiency takes a dive. While almost half of all European managers question their meeting effectiveness, only a quarter of their American colleagues are pessimistic about their efficiency. So less seems to be more, even in a business-context…

The use and availability of technology is another aspect that steps out. We clearly see the importance of mobile devices growing exponentially. However, businesses are not always up-to-date when it comes to enabling this BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) trend. No less than 73% of the questioned directors and managers want to show mobile content onscreen in the meeting room. Only 14% of them are able to do that today in a comfortable and easy way. Extra investments are clearly needed. The UK understands this, and is by far the most technology-savvy nation in our survey. Unfortunately, British managers also need double the amount of technology support in meeting rooms. There is thus a need for easy-to-use technology that never fails.

Collaboration is another top priority for European managers. ‘Collaboration solutions that make it easy to share visuals/information from different computers’ is on the wish list of 50% of managers, whereas 47% dreams of ‘Collaboration solutions that make it easy to share visuals/information from different tablets or smartphones’. 79% says typical meetings would be more effective if information from more than one person could be visible at the same time (using split screen or another technology).

In summary, managers want:

– To share content from their tablet or smartphone in an easy way
– A wireless connection to the large meeting room screen from the participants’ seats
– Easy-to-use technology that never fails
– A collaboration solution that makes it easy to share visuals/information from different computers, tablets or smartphones
– Technology that allows multiple people to be onscreen at the same time.

The results of this survey underline the importance of a reliable meeting room collaboration system. Barco’s ClickShare product already meets a lot of the needs of this generation of managers. What’s more, the survey also provides a number of insights that can be applied to the further development of ClickShare.
