1,400 young artists draw for HKCEC

Drawing Competition. A total of 1,385 students participated in the “Happy 25th Birthday to HKCEC” Colouring and Drawing Competition 2013. This is the first of a series of celebration activities for the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre’s (HKCEC) 25th anniversary.

146 students aged 9 to 14 from 15 primary and secondary schools were given the chance to tour the HKCEC and learn about its contribution to Hong Kong, while also looking at its architecture and interior design from an artistic perspective.  The Drawing Competition, aiming to unlock the skills and creativity of the participating students, while at the same time enhancing their knowledge of the HKCEC.  Participants were offered an introduction to the HKCEC, and given a site tour to different facilities including an unoccupied exhibition hall, meeting rooms, theatres and the Convention Hall. They even had a chance to visit a trade fair and facilities not normally open to the public, such as reporter rooms and an organiser office.

Following the site tours, participants were given 120 minutes to use their creative talents to draw some aspect of the HKCEC with the assigned theme “Happy 25th Birthday to HKCEC”. The outcome was a superb array of creative sketches and views, testifying to the artistic talent of the young people. The Colouring Competition received overwhelming response from another 1,239 students aged 6 to 8 from 14 primary schools. The students were invited to create a birthday greeting with their parents for the HKCEC on their colouring work.
