Awarded. Barcelona has been named the Mobile World Capital by the GSMA, the global association of mobile operators. As from 2012 to 2018, Barcelona will host the Mobile World Congress and the Mobile World Center. Both will be platforms for exchange. Four cities were shortlisted by GSMA: Barcelona, Milan, Munich and Paris. “Becoming the Mobile World Capital was a strategic bid for Barcelona, and consolidates our leadership as a benchmark city for new technologies,” said Barcelona’s mayor Xavier Trias.
