More than 2,000 of the world’s leading experts in the field will meet at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) at the International Population Conference in 2025. This will mark the first time in the event’s 93-year history that it has been held in Australia. The six-day Conference is organised every four years by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), and is expected to deliver $7.2 million in direct economic spend for Queensland.

The team at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre partnered with the Australian Population Association, host organisation for the Conference, together with Tourism and Events Queensland, Tourism Australia and the Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) to secure the first-time event for Brisbane and Australia. Professor Edith Gray, Head of the School of Demography at the Australian National University, and IUSSP Council member said that Australia’s highly regarded international reputation for population research was a factor in the selection of Brisbane as the host city for the conference.
