The Cairns Convention Centre has become a mass vaccination hub in a bid to help the business events industry get back on its feet. Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) are using the Centre as a Vaccination Hub for at least four weekends to boost the vaccination numbers in the region. September 10-12 was the first weekend the Centre welcomed locals to come through and receive their Pfizer vaccination.
“We were very pleased with the turnout to our first weekend of the Covid-19 mass vaccination event in Cairns with 3707 people vaccinated over the three days,” Dr Mackie, CHHHS executive director said.
Janet Hamilton, General Manager Cairns Convention Centre said: “We are eager to help out in any way we can to support the tourism industry and get Australia to a point where we can safely open our borders and have people visit the region again. We have the capacity to do more vaccinations and encourage people to register or walk in.“
According to Cairns Convention Centre, the venue will be hosting a variety of conferences in the coming years with the 2022 calendar of events demonstrating the willingness of the people wanting to meet face to face again.
As the Centre starts welcoming more national and internal delegates through the doors the region will benefit from the economic impact. The new expansion of the venue is scheduled to open in 2023. With that, „the Cairns Convention Centre will become the cornerstone for business events in tropical north Queensland“, the marketing team of the centre claims.
