Alexandria/USA. The Convention Industry Council (CIC), in their continued focus on the globalization of the CMP designation, is pleased to announce an additional Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) exam to be held outside of North America in 2010. The inaugural CMP Global Exam Day will be Saturday, February 20, 2010, with testing locations to include Cancun, Mexico (in conjunction with MPI’s Meet Different), South Korea, Singapore, South Africa and Italy.

“The demand for the CMP designation from the global meetings community has been overwhelming, and it is our goal to provide as many opportunities as possible to meet this demand,” says CIC Chief Operating Officer Karen Kotowski, CAE, CMP. “To show our commitment to global expansion, CIC has designated February 20, 2010 as the CMP Global Exam Day and selected five international exam sites. We know this global momentum will continue to grow to many more exam locations world-wide.”

The CMP program recognizes individuals who have demonstrated key understanding and excellence in the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry. This exam is open to all professionals who have met all application requirements. The application deadline is Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Eduardo Chaillo, CMM, CMP, Regional Director for the Mexico Tourism Board and CMP International Committee Chair said, “This is an exciting time for the CMP program as international awareness continues to heighten. There is unlimited potential for growth of the CMP designation internationally.

The CMP Global Exam Day shows the strong commitment by CIC to bring this critical education to the global market and continue to develop our profession.” Obtaining the CMP designation is a two-part process, consisting of an application and a written examination administered and monitored by an independent testing agency. Eligibility to take the examination is based on an extensive review of professional qualifications.

Candidates must have at least three years of employment in the meetings industry and demonstrate responsibility and accountability for successful meetings. The comprehensive written examination tests knowledge of all functions of meeting management.  Additional information on the Convention Industry Council and the CMP program can be found at
