Economic engine: Valencia attracts 11% more delegates in 2008

Spain. Valencia accommodated more than 200,000 delegates in 2008, 11% more than in 2007. The city hosted 791 meetings, 8% more than the previous year. Amongst the most important events were the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition, attended by 6,000 visitors; the Sociedad Española de Medicina Rural y Generalista (Spanish Society of Rural and General Medicine) National Congress, with 5,000 attendees and NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly, which brought representatives from more than 50 countries to Valencia.

With some 150 events, last year the Valencia Conference Centre managed to generate an economic impact on the city of 71.3 m euros, 6.5% more than in 2007. The centre hosted a total of 29 congresses, 19 conventions and 36 conferences, increasing its activity by 5.4% compared with 2007. During 2008, the Conference Centre secured 88 new events, increasing its portfolio of events to 600 until 2016, including the European Congress on Emergency Medicine in 2009, the Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology Congress in 2010, the 17th Annual International Congress of the International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS) in 2011 and the 8th International Society of Citriculture Conference in 2012. www.palcongres-vlc.com
