Vancouver. The BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) has announced the appointment of Ken Cretney as the new General Manager of the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC) effective October 1st, 2008.  “In the end, we decided that Ken was the very best person for the job and we’re glad he also just happens to be from our own backyard,” said Warren Buckley, PavCo’s President and CEO. “Ken knows our market and city, and he’s recognized as a strategic business leader with a reputation for getting results by developing strong and committed teams. Ken also has an excellent understanding of what it takes to develop new markets, something we’re keen to do with the expansion for the convention centre coming online next spring.”
Since 1987, the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre has been British Columbia’s flagship convention facility, hosting more than 350 events annually and generating more than $213 million (fiscal 2008) in economic impact for the province. When the VCEC expansion is completed in March 2009, the VCEC will have tripled its space to nearly 500,000 square feet, and will serve as the accredited media centre for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. www.vcec.ca
