HSMAI Europe, the European branch of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), has introduced a Sustainability Guide for Hospitality e-book. This comprehensive guide, developed by senior hospitality leaders, aims to facilitate sustainable practices in the travel, tourism, and hotel industry.

Accessible for free on the HSMAI Europe website, the guide provides tools and best practices for organizations of all sizes, including large hotel chains, individual hotels, cruise companies, and travel agencies.

Practical examples and solutions for the hospitality industry

The guide emphasizes the importance of sustainability for business success, offering practical examples and solutions.

Developed by the HSMAI Europe board of directors, the guide outlines the initiation of sustainable practices, addressing benefits such as enhanced guest experience, cost reduction, employee attraction and retention, community development, and environmental impact reduction. It also provides detailed action plans, involving team engagement, assessments, roadmap creation, progress measurement, and communication strategies.

Published in multiple European languages

The guide features a downloadable Sustainability Worksheet to assist organizations in launching and maintaining sustainability efforts. Contributions from industry leaders such as Bellagroup, Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, Hurtigruten, GYRO AS, Strawberry, and D2O, alongside insights on communication from The Hotels Network and guidance on avoiding greenwashing from Beyond Green Travel, enrich the guide. To ensure widespread adoption, the guide is not only free but will be published in multiple European languages.

Organizations are encouraged to seek recognition for sustainability efforts through the HSMAI Europe Sustainability Award, with applications open for the awards ceremony at HSMAI ROC on January 18, 2024.
