The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre closes the year 2023 with success. According to a press release, 1,724 events were hosted and just over 1.3 million delegates were welcomed. This translates to an estimated economic contribution of RM656 million to Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia.
The figures represent a significant recovery from 2021, when only about 300 events could be held due to the pandemic.
KLCC General Manager, John Burke, attributes the success to the combined efforts of the team and partners and emphasizes the important role of the events division in Malaysia’s prosperity.
The breakdown of the center’s revenue for 2023 shows that 26% comes from conferences, 28% from exhibitions and 46% from the corporate segment.
The year 2024 is also already well booked: 65% of the revenue target has already been secured, 47 exhibitions and 32 conferences (26 of which are international) are planned.
In terms of sustainability, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre scores highly with waste reduction, recycling and the promise of net-zero events, among other things.
The KLCC also contributed to Malaysia’s reputation as a destination for business events last year. The venue’s team was represented at numerous international trade fairs and even hosted the UFI Asia-Pacific Conference 2023.
