Malaysia. Sarawak offers unique Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes that allow you and your organisation to spend more time helping the local communities by providing a better future for others during your convention.

Following on from successful buyer familiarizations to Kuching and Miri this year, Mr Mike Cannon, Managing Director of Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) said, “We are pleased to work with organisations such as Sarawak Forestry Corporation who have put a lot of effort in creating CSR programs for Sarawak.”

He added, “CSR plays an important role in promoting a warmer image of an organisation and conventions in general. Having goals and a vision that go beyond products and profits by actively participating in social responsibility programmes portrays a friendlier image to clients and the general public.”

Organisations can choose their level of involvement in a CSR programme, for example to provide funding and resources for worthwhile social causes – such as donating money or employee time to charities, or putting together a real plan to produce products or provide services that are in the best interests of the society. These include ideas like using safe materials in design and manufacturing, corporate environmental initiatives, and other factors such as job creation and economic development.

The most successful corporate social responsibility programmes integrate both ways of CSR, ways that show a true commitment towards a cause. Such examples include; a company that uses sustainable materials in their products, donates financial resources to environmental causes, and allows employees to take paid time off for volunteering at environmental charities. This displays a true commitment to the environment that goes beyond any single CSR initiative.
