Chicago. “Just as we were getting back on our feet from the attack on the motivational events industry the swine flu is dominating the headlines today. Much of the spotlight is on Mexico and we are working directly with our Site friends there to ensure we are providing you the most current information.
‘The health and safety of our visitors is our number one concern and we will keep you informed about the conditions in Mexico’, said Site member Eduardo Chaillo CMP, CMM, Director of the Strategic Business Unit for the US, Mexico Tourism Board.
We are told the Mexican government is taking measures to avoid the spread of the swine flu. To date, there have been no reported cases of influenza-like-illness in the resort areas along the coast of Mexico. Here are some links for your reference:
As I am writing this, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is monitoring the situation in the US and other parts of the world.
As we learned from Site members in Canada during the SARS crisis, it is important to lead with facts and information so that we can move forward productively versus with the fear that accompanies dramatic headlines. Right now we know there is a lot of confusion and many questions about how this may affect already booked programs. We are gathering the feedback and data from our community so you will be able to have informed conversations with your business partners.
One of Site’s greatest strengths is our global network and our ability to get information from sources that we know. In times like these, you can count on Site to keep you current. Later today, Site will be part of an industry-wide meeting that will discuss the travel community’s response.
Warm Regards,
